Overview

As a Test Automation Engineer you will be responsible for implementing the tool selection and framework for a new test automation installation at the NIA. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary agile scrum team of software developers, engineers, business analysts and other IT professionals building, maintaining, and enhancing applications that support NIH’s mission. 

 

This person must be resourceful, detail-oriented, and 100% client-focused, with a continuing passion for their profession. 

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of cross functional, passionate agile project teams to ensure quality is driven into the heart of the development process from requirements definition through to delivery
  • Designing, developing and supporting frameworks for our test infrastructure and providing automation expertise to our development teams
  • Contributing toward predictable delivery of quality releases; research, recommend and implement tools as needed with the goal of increasing automation
  • Mentor team members on test automation
  • Proactively bringing issues and problems to the attention of the team; generating, proposing and implementing innovative solutions to solve them
  • Be meticulous about documentation and maintaining a robust log of all test cases and test results
  • Ensure that all tests are executed and give regular feedback to the team lead on the status of quality
  • Use appropriate measures and KPIs to validate and report on software quality
  • Work closely with the software engineering team, Product Management and Technical Operations as well as business users and Senior Management, as required
  • Be a creative thinker who can quickly identify and test for functional ‘edge cases’ outside of expected functionality work-flow
  • Experience with the following types of testing and knowing when to use automation:
    • Unit testing
    • UX Testing
    • UI Testing
    • Integration testing of APIs
    • Performance and scalability testing
    • Security Penetration Testing
    • Pen Testing

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of automation testing experience
  • Experience with Automation Testing tools (Modern libraries / frameworks:  Playwright, Puppeteer, Thoughtworks Gauge / Taiko, KarateDSL, Cypress.js)
  • Experience with testing of applications developed with COTS products (Pega, Tableau or UI Path experience a plus)
  • Experience using Azure DevOps (formerly VSTS)
  • Ability to work independently, systematically and on multiple projects
  • Ability to perform thorough analysis of Software Requirement documentation to ensure completeness and testability of requirements
  • Proficient with bug tracking and test management tool-sets to support development processes
  • Experience writing test scripts
  • Building test infrastructures using containerization technologies such as Docker and working within continuous delivery / continuous release pipeline processes
  • Experience working in a virtual computing environment
  • Experience in Testing web services using SOAP UI
  • Strong Experience in working with SQL databases (Oracle and MS SQL Server)
  • Experience in Agile Scrum development, testing frequent builds and full regression testing for production releases

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field 
  • ISTQB Test Automation Engineering or other certification (nice to have)

Clearance: 

  • The ability to obtain a government moderate background security clearance or Public Trust
