The Senior Architecture Engineer will work to understand customer needs, validate solutions, and define and create the architectural depictions and documents to ensure seamless integration, and address all customer requirements, standards, and priorities, including performance, functionality, ease of use, and security considerations. This person will provide technical expertise, direction, and guidance to develop and communicate the program vision.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and designing architectural and engineering plans and design patterns.
  • Working with program and project leaders to define and create the architectural depictions and documents, ensuring logical flow.
  • Architect and virtualize DMLSS servers in the Veteran Administration Enterprise Cloud (VAEC) AWS cloud
  • Collaborate closely with client stakeholders and SMEs to develop comprehensive architectural solutions, determine architectural and design needs from site locations to projected timelines.
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders and leadership to determine.
  • Develop, design, and implement start-to-finish project roadmaps and high-level strategies.
  • Support the eSCM PSG with technical solutions to integrate and migrate existing legacy systems to the VAEC AWS Cloud including architecture and deployment of Intersystems IRIS for Health;
  • Develop the standards development process for use in creating and testing of static and dynamic web content.
  • Create and present extensive reports to internal and external stakeholders, outlining progress, project needs, and goals.
  • Demonstrate experience with network architecture, security mobile application, database software installation and maintenance.
  • Configure, automate, provision, monitor, and manage/report compliance for software, hardware networks, communications circuits, storage, and backup/recovery in an agile environment.
  • Architect system migration from physical environment to virtual environments; in VMware and AWS.
  • Ensure all plans are compliant with governmental health and safety regulations.
  • Research and maintain knowledge of various engineering disciplines, application methods, and materials.
  • Provide guidance to other architects and engineers to ensure understanding of recommended solution.
  • Liaise with clients to ensure all issues are addressed in a timely manner, and that project requirements are met.
  • Ensure the team works together to achieve set goals and targets.
  • Demonstrate ability to execute Target Architecture plans and decomposing strategy and Target Outcomes into initiatives, tasks, work products and innovative solutions
  • Act as a mentor to new Architects and helping them fine-tune their design skills and improve their industry knowledge.



Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in design and development of Solution architecture
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Department of Veterans Affairs (preferred)
  • Experience must include a wide range of work in creating architecture models and documentation with all components that comprise IT systems including network topology and or software development.
  • Knowledge of Agile principles and Enterprise Architecture
  • Experience with the implementation of VA Compliance User Stories (preferred)
  • Strong sense of ownership and track record of quality work
  • Can-do attitude and get things done on time and on budget
  • Exercise good judgment about which tools to use and when to use them
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with the implementation of VA Compliance User Stories (preferred) 

Education:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent
  • 10 + years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education

Clearance:

  • Ability to obtain a Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) clearance
