Overview

TISTA Science and Technology is looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join the team in Bethesda, MD. The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and guidance on a variety of hands-on engineering design, integration and maintenance in accordance with HHS/NIH standards.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in switching/routing/firewalls/load balancing, be responsible for creating and administering cloud-based solutions, and work with the team to build a framework for enterprise cloud policy/procedure.

Responsibilities

 

  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems. Replacing faulty network hardware and cabling components when required.
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions in multiple cloud provider IaaS environments (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Experience administering cloud firewall resources (Azure, AWS, Google)
  • Experience creating and maintaining cloud express routes, cloud direct connections, cloud application gateways, cloud network interfaces
  • Experience installing, configuring, and administering Cisco and Extreme Networks switching and routing devices and appliances
  • Experience with VMware virtual networking, virtual distributed switches, VMware kernel ports, iSCSI connections
  • Experience maintaining and administering on-Perm firewall appliances and load balancers (Palo Alto, F5)
  • Experience installing and maintaining copper and fiber optic cables, such as CAT5, SE, CAT6, low voltage cables, and fiber while adhering to best practices, industry standards, and manufacturer requirements
  • Conferring with network users about any network outages and resolution of system problems
  • Advise IT management and senior leadership on recommended improvements to the current infrastructure
  • Operating master consoles to monitor the performance of networks and computer systems.
  • Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical SOP documentation and topology drawings for creation/maintenance of cloud resources
  • Experience creating and implementing a governance framework for implementing enterprise cloud solutions

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience creating and supporting enterprise networking solutions with products from Extreme Networks, Cisco, Palo Alto,  and F5
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud providers technologies to advise, identify, create, and deliver infrastructure services and architecture for new   systems including the transition from legacy system to cloud infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of a wide range of cloud services and solutions, including server-less architecture
  • Must have experience with proposing new solutions to problems in the areas of their functional expertise.
  • Ability to work and analyze both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent problem solving and analysis skills with the ability to effectively troubleshoot, resolve, or escalate problems

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 5-7 years of work experience; degree may be substituted for 10 total years of relevant work experience
  • AWS or MS Azure certification (preferred)
  • Cisco and/or Extreme Networks certification (preferred)

Clearance:

• Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
