The Sr. Systems Administrator will support the client in day-to-day operations, virtualization initiatives, and maintain operating systems to provide optimum performance and system availability. 


  • Evaluate functional requirements, and upgrade requests, and provide comments to ensure appropriate direction to program managers and development team 
  • Carry out system upgrades as requested for Mid-Tier hardware 
  • Assist database administrators (DBA) interactively on installing and upgrading software and monitor cluster operations 
  • Migrate applications into Enterprise data-centers 
  • Provide administrative support functions for product application and COTS products (e.g. application server, web server, content server, etc.) and middleware platforms like WebLogic and web servers like Apache  
  • Provide administrative support for Windows and Linux systems 
  • Support identification and institution of metrics to measure DevSecOps maturity and automate the collection of the same  
  • Support administration of platform support services using the software provided by the hosting vendor 
  • Support capacity planning, management and monitoring of customer environment 
  • Manage all Virtual Machines (VMs) and Storage Area Network (SAN) backups 
  • Interface with the VA Network Security Operations Center (NSOC) for ESCCB requests (network connectivity requests) 
  • Monitor the operational status of customer systems 
  • Monitor system health and performance 
  • Configure monitoring system alerts 
  • Manage the host firewall 
  • Build and provision new VMs per customer requirements 
  • Document and provide recommendations to Program Managers on optimizing the application functionality 
  • Setup, schedule, and execute backups and recoveries of all Mid-Tier application and system software on managed systems and interface with the Program Manager of each application to ensure backup/recovery plans are in place 
  • Install and upgrade Veritas Netbackup Software as needed 
  • Support information operations to provide connectivity to Mid-Tier platforms and testing of the connections 
  • Provide input to DR/COOP plans and testing activities 
  • Document processes and procedures as identified 


  • Demonstrated expertise with Oracle/SUN Solaris 10 or higher, HP-UX 11 or higher, Red Hat Linux 5 or higher operating systems that include creating Solaris virtual servers using Solaris ZONES 
  • Containers or Logical Domain (LDOM) technology, HP-UX Virtual Manager (VM)/HP Data-center OE and VMware for Red Hat Linux.  
  • Knowledge of Symantec Netbackup 6.5; Brocade switches; and planning architecture related to DR/COOP. 
  • Experience supporting software/system related changes; identification and resolution of software bugs, research and application changes, updates, and patches;  
  • Experience with review, analysis and testing of new technologies introduced to the environment; performance monitoring and tuning, and implementation of ‘best practices” 



  • Bachelor Degree 
  • Security+ and one of the following Technical CE: 
  • Solaris 10 or higher, HP-UX 11 or higher, or RHEL 5 or higher 



  • Ability to pass Modest Background Investigation (MBI)  



  • Remote
