Overview

TISTA Science and Technology is looking for a Senior MS SQL Server DBA to join the team in Bethesda, MD. The Senior MS SQL Server DBA is responsible for providing technical support and guidance on a variety of hands-on engineering design, integration and maintenance in accordance with HHS/NIH standards.

 

The Sr. MS SQL Server DBA  will design and develop all required Microsoft SQL database objects including but not limited to tables, procedures, functions, packages, and users to support assigned Web Application projects. Will conduct complex data analysis to assess implications of cross team data interactions and data service design considerations that impact these applications. Will continue follow DOD and STIG guidance and adhere to these standards in all software releases.

The overall approach must continue to support the organization even as it adopts new technologies – like Cloud, High Performance Computing, and Machine Learning – to support its health-care research mission.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot complex database issues and collaborate with development staff to aid in application-level troubleshooting
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment
  • Expert knowledge of DBMS and admin tools, performance and monitoring tools. (OEM, Irwin, Toad, etc.)
  • Experience with T-SQL package implementation and troubleshooting
  • Proven track record of administering MSSQL in Windows environments
  • Interface with Infrastructure and Security staff to analyze and maintain current patching levels for MSSQL Server systems
  • Experience building and supporting a production database infrastructure, including backups, monitoring/alerting, performance metric monitoring
  • Experience optimizing Microsoft for ETL, Data visualization, and Business Intelligence tools
  • Establishes corporate standards for disaster recovery, data retention and database security and monitors industry standards
  • Provides implementation and ongoing support
  • Translates detailed design into physical database structures and performs database testing
  • Builds and supports required database test environments
  • Provides technical expertise and DBMS configuration
  • Provides production and non-production DBA on-call support
  • Demonstrates a mastery of cutting-edge technologies to leverage when making strategic decisions
  • Determines database requirements for projects and ensures that new systems comply with database strategies

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science or Information Management
  • 10+ years overall experience in the IT or IT consulting field
  • 5+ years development data-driven dashboards for IT infrastructure, application development, or cybersecurity projects
  • 5+ years experience directly interfacing with clients, with a proven track record of managing client expectations and maintaining relationships
  • Experience applying a variety of technology implementation methodologies (e.g., agile, waterfall) within a large-scale program that spans multiple stakeholder groups
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, Power-Point and Project
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with 3+ years experience preparing and presenting technical topics to senior audiences
