As the Tech Lead – Infrastructure, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of software developers, engineers, and other IT professionals to support, maintain, and enhance the NIH mission. You will join a highly collaborative team focused on delivering high value to its customers. You will work in close cooperation with other developers, engineers, managers and product owners on project teams, as well as work independently on smaller efforts with limited direct supervision.

  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems. Replacing faulty network hardware and cabling components when required.
  • Experience installing and maintaining copper and fiber optic cables, such as CAT5, SE, CAT6, low voltage cables, and fiber while adhering to best practices, industry standards, and manufacturer requirements
  • Experience with VMware virtual networking, virtual distributed switches, VMware kernel ports, iSCSI connections
  • Conferring with network users about any network outages and resolution of system problems
  • Advise IT management and senior leadership on recommended improvements to the current infrastructure
  • Operating master consoles to monitor the performance of networks and computer systems.
  • Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required.
  • Experience installing and administering Extreme and Cisco switching and routing devices and appliances
  • Experience maintaining and administering on-perm firewall appliances and load balancers (Palo Alto, F5)
  • Experience creating and maintaining cloud express routes, cloud direct connections, cloud application gateways, cloud network interfaces
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions in multiple cloud provider IaaS environments (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical SOP documentation and topology drawings for creation/maintenance of cloud resources
  • Experience creating and implementing a governance framework for implementing enterprise cloud solutions
  • Experience administering cloud firewall resources (Azure, AWS, Google)


  • 3+ years of relevant experience with Azure Cloud, AWS, Google Cloud, or other enterprise cloud providers
  • 5+ years of relevant experience creating and supporting enterprise networking solutions with products from Extreme Networks, Cisco, Palo Alto, and F5 
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies to advise, identify, create, and deliver infrastructure services and architecture for new systems including the transition from legacy system to cloud infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of a wide range of cloud services and solutions like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure products, including server less architecture
  • Must have experience with proposing new solutions to problems in the areas of their functional expertise.

  • Excellent problem solving and analysis skills with the ability to effectively troubleshoot, resolve, or escalate problems


  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 10 years of work experience; degree may be substituted through additional 8 years of relevant work experience
  • AWS or MS Azure certification (preferred)
  • Cisco and/or Extreme Networks certification (preferred)



  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
