Principal Cloud Engineer

TISTA Science and Technology is looking for a Principal Cloud Engineer who will be part of our Cloud Reliability Engineering team, helping us migrate, scale-up, multi-cloud, multi-account environment to support a diversity of engineering needs across CTO group. Help us enable all the best practices of cloud native development: CI/CD, Data Lake, Containers, Serverless, Infrastructure as Code, etc.

If you choose to be part of this team helping reshape healthcare information with CMS, we will expect you to take the lead in developing highly innovative solutions, be able to communicate and convince team members on recommendations, show research capability to back up assessments and understand strategic importance of certain decisions.


Technical Responsibilities:

  • Understand the current APS system architecture state; responsible for the development and implementation of the migration activities.
  • Develop pre-migration checklist, evaluate, and utilize applications discovery and migration tools for effective cloud migration.
  • Responsible for the administration/configuration of CI/CD pipeline, integrate the CI/CD system into the onboarding process, and scale the CI/CD system to meet CMS’ demand.
  • Utilize CMS approved cloud services to increase security best practices and scan software code for security violations and adherence to CMS policy and standards.
  • Coordinate application performance testing with ETC team (performance test center) and perform capacity modeling to project the effects of workload testing.
  • Conduct resource usage analysis, including tracking and trending of system resources on the cloud.
  • Setup and monitor application capability utilization, availability, setup process, and scripts for application and database logs monitoring using Splunk and Kibana.
  • Migrate code repository to the CMS Cloud Environment and monitor resource performance during system validation and performance testing.
  • Provide status updates to stakeholders and escalates issues when necessary.
  • Understanding of security best practices
  • Familiarity with container (Docker, ECS, EKS)
  • Strong Linux skills: RHEL6, RHEL7
  • Infrastructure provisioning tool: Terraform/CloudFormation
  • Familiarity with Splunk and AWS CloudWatch
  • Hands on working knowledge around standard AWS services, such has EC2, S3, Lambda, VPCs, Load balancing, Networking and Monitoring Health of these services using tools/processes.
  • Hands on working knowledge on deploying AWS Cloud Formation scripts, SSL Certificates.
  • A good understanding of Cloud Security in AWS, specifically IAM Roles & Polices, Security Groups and Encryption key

Recommended Skills:

  • Agile-based knowledge and skill.
  • Familiarity with open source software stacks
  • AWS Solutions Architect Certification or AWS Sys Ops Administrator





  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar. Master’s a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in hands on software development and/or platform engineering ideally in large-scale software projects or -aaS models.
  • Has knowledge in Cloud Account Management. Experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and Cluster Management. Hands on is a plus.
  • Experience with Docker or another container engine.
  • Automation, Continuous Refactoring, Security etc.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tools and implementing pipelines
  • Aptitude for building systems using modern, scalable, resilient, cloud native architectures (Containers, Servlerless, etc).
  • Strong commitment to quality, documentation, and engineering excellence.
  • Proficient communication skills with an ability to reach both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You make complex things simpler, not the other way around.
  • Experience with any programming language.
  • Knowledge in secure SDLC, particularly in a cloud environment
