The Systems Engineer provides technical expertise for a Unix/Linux infrastructure/systems engineering team. This team provides 24/7 operations support for a custom web-based fraud prevention tool.


  • Provide excellent customer service, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Must be able to provide support during non-standard business hours and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
  • Responsible for deploying and maintaining a highly-available production environment with aggressive uptime goals, as well as numerous non-production development/testing environments
  • Proficient in supporting Oracle Solaris servers on Sparc, both virtual and physical
  • Proficient in building and supporting virtualized RedHat Linux servers on Wintel
  • Experience building and administering application environments with a cloud hosting vendor, AWS experience preferred
  • Proficient in advanced analysis and troubleshooting in complicated Unix/Linux environments
  • Deploy Unix/Linux operating system patches, and interface with Oracle DBAs for database patch deployment
  • Write basic SQL queries (Insert, update, delete) and perform data exports using tools like TOAD, SQL Developer
  • Identify technical problems, escalate to leadership, and implement technical solutions
  • Working knowledge of Apache, Tomcat, and other web/Java server applications
  • Working knowledge of load-balancing appliances, F5 BigIP experience preferred
  • Knowledge of FISMA framework is desired
  • Experience with shared/SAN storage technologies in a virtualized environment
  • Knowledge, skills and ability to communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing
  • Attention to details, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must have proven ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Work with a cross-functional team to monitor application performance, custom reporting infrastructure, and recurring client deliverables
  • Write and maintain technical documentation using the MS Office Suite, SharePoint, Visio, and Wiki tools
  • Use JIRA for task management


  • 7+ years of experience in IT, preferred 5 + in IT Operations
  • Exceptional analytical and process development skills
  • Ability to manage multiple issues at one time with exceptional follow through
  • Experience supporting Software as a Service (SaaS) environments is strongly desired
  • Proven ability to learn custom application environments
  • Relevant technical certifications are desired
    • Unix/Linux administration (Solaris and RedHat, and Oracle database administration)
    • AWS/Cloud 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with continuous integration tools like Jenkins
  • Experience with administering version control systems like Git
  • Experience with performing performance optimization i.e. tuning a system to meet performance goals
  • Experience with performance monitoring tools like New Relic
  • Experience with performing security audits to identify vulnerabilities


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems. Significant relevant professional experience may be substituted


  • Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust clearance
